Jo & Georgie

Always on the look out for new dog friendly venues, that really enjoy having dogs visit.

This is where I tell you all about how I ended up promoting
dog friendly venues and businesses.

Back story!

I (Jo) have been in the Hospitality and Tourism sector for over 20 years in Management roles in Sales and Marketing.  After completing my Hospitality and Tourism degree in Edinburgh,  I was invited to train with the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company in the USA for a couple of years, before returning to Belfast to take up various Management roles within the sector culminating in the role of Director of Sales and Marketing.  In my early days, I spent my nights studying for a Post-Grad in Marketing, and subsequently further Management and Leadership qualifications at Ulster University.  I deviated slightly in the early noughties, and achieved a Distinction in Social Enterprise from Ulster University, and then decided I fancied a leisure course at night, and completed a Diploma in Reflexology and Level 2 in Tour Guiding!

A Life of Dogs!

Since then my life has become more dog friendly, and with that a couple of courses related to dogs:  Tellington Touch and Fur Babies First Aid! In 2017, I created the first Dog Friendly Food Tours, which involved a lot of food and drink on guided tours of Belfast, Portrush, Finnebrogue Woods and Hillsborough.  Great craic, exercise, fresh air and superb locally sourced food.  It was during my tours, that I recognised the need for a source of information for dog owners.   There were little to no resources available, so I developed a dog friendly map of Northern Ireland in 2018 and a new website for dog owners to find places to eat and stay.  Today, this new website aims to fulfil the needs of dog owners across the UK and Ireland, by good quality listings and independent businesses waiting to welcome new guests and customers along with their dog.

Promoting your business.

With the increase in staycations, bringing your dog on holiday is now much easier when you have everything you need at your fingertips.  The new website is constantly evolving with new listings and services.  If you are visiting Northern Ireland from the rest of the UK or Ireland with your dog,  get in touch for itinerary suggestions and planning.

I’m always happy to chat with dog friendly businesses to provide assistance, and can deliver effective marketing and promotional opportunities via social media to grow awareness of your product/service.

The PAW Grading Program® is a super marketing tool for dog friendly hotels.  If you would like to apply for a grading do give Jo a call for an initial chat.

With my hospitality background, I spent over a year researching and developing a grading system for dog friendly hotels, and in 2019 Trademarked the PAW (Pets Are Welcome) Grading Program®.   A unique rating system akin to a star rating for hotels, which clearly identifies the services and facilities offered by dog friendly hotels.  I identified a difference between one hotel and the next and this is what prompted the need to create an easy reference guide for dog owners.  The grading also takes into consideration the need to adhere to specific legislation.  With three ratings, Gold, Silver and Bronze – hotels can apply online to have a PAW Grading of their property.   As a marketing tool it provides significant benefits to the property in terms of attracting dog owners to stay, and with an increase in stay at home breaks, newly rated properties are already seeing the increase in sales.
